My girls

Lauren is the most unique person, I swear. She is such a funny duck. Anyone who doesn't know this kid is missing out.

Background: my Aunt sent Lauren a book from England when she was about 2. It is called The Gruffalo and is an adorable story. She later sent The Gruffalo's Child - also cute. Well, Lauren doesn't feel that way. Ever since I can remember, Lauren has had nightmares about that damn thing. She is not scared of anything else - she's seen Harry Potter and the like, but the Gruffalo reached back in there and won't let go.

This morning:

L:"Next time, can I get a bedroom with no closet, if that's possible"
Me:"Sure"
L:"Yeah, cause even if it's open just a crack...I don't like it"
Me:"Why don't you close it?"
L: Getting kind of embarrassed: "Oh, I don't know, I feel like he'll like, get mad at me or something...I don't know"
I just want to hug her to death
Me:"Alright, well I'll remember to close it every night, and I think we should get a little lock on the outside if that would make you feel better"
L:"Yes! It would. Ok"

I figure my fears are no more rational than hers. If only mine could be quelled by a lock on my closet!

In other news - her crazy sister, Em, looked me square in the eye today and said:

"I used to be a flying Elephant."

I have no doubt that she is telling the truth.
